Blame 'Prosperity Evangelists' for our woes - Chaplain
March 15, 2011

Adaklu Kodzobi (V/R), March 15, GNA - Prosperity gospel preachers are to blame for most evils in the Ghanaian society today, the Reverend Lawson Dzanku, Chaplain and Co-ordinator of Counselling and Guidance of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, has said.

He said those preachers make their followers believe that they (preachers) rather than hard work would make them rich and prosperous.

"Their message is that, if you are not wealthy then you are not a true Christian, therefore, people are employing "ways and means to succeed."

Rev. Dzanku, who is also the pastor in charge of the SSNIT Flats District of the E.P. Church, was speaking at a fund raising rally organized by the Adaklu Kodzobi Branch of the church in aid of choir robes.

He said the increased rate of prostitution, armed robbery drug trafficking and chaos in some marriages were mainly because the youth had been pysched up to receive instant riches and solutions without hard work and endurance.

Rev. Dzanku, who based his message on the theme: "Obey God's Word and Live", said instead of preaching the word of God to the people to live morally upright lives and labour to be fruitful, "these so called men of God are preaching the message of instant wealth and miracles."

He said they promise miracles and instant wealth to their listeners and by so doing "extort" the little that they possess from them.

Rev. Dzanku advised Ghanaians, especially the youth, to use their time and energies to work "instead of visiting prayer and fasting sessions 24 hours a day and seven days a week in search of miracles".

He appealed choristers to be role models in society and use their voices to win more souls for the Lord.

The appeal for fund yielded GH¢ 1,900.

Togbe Dzegblade IV, Chief of Adaklu Kodzobi, entreated Christians to emulate the early Christians of Antioch who were so called because of the love they had for one another.
