GOD WILL PROVIDE A LAMB Empty GOD WILL PROVIDE A LAMB

This song has never failed to bless, no matter how poorly sung,
when offered along with the accompaniment of tears ....

GOD WILL PROVIDE A LAMB
(GEN. 22:1-14)

Three days journey to the sacred place
A boy and a man with a sorrowful face
Tortured yet faithful to God's command
To take the life of his son with his own hands

God will provide a lamb
To be offered up in your place
A sacrifice so spotless and clean
To take all your sin away

Here's wood and fire, where's the sacrifice?
The questioning voice and the innocent eyes
Is the "son of laughter" who waited for (Gen 17:17-19)
To die like a lamb, to please the Lord?

God will provide a lamb
To be offered up in your place
A sacrifice so spotless and clean
To take all your sin away

A gleaming knife, an accepted choice
A rush of wind and an angels voice
A ram in the thicket, caught by his horns
And a new age of trusting the Lord is born

For God has provided a lamb
He was offered up in your place
What Abraham was asked to do
He's done, He's offered His only Son

What Abraham was asked to do
He's done, He's offered His only Son

Quote:
The Old Testament is filled with pictures of Christ. He is seen as the Rock that followed the children thru the wilderness (I Cor.10:4) the Manna (Jn.6:49) as the passover Lamb (I Cor.5:7). It seems that in every chapter of the O.T. we see Him there prefigured.

The most vivid of these pictures is Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac. This narrative is not only a striking similie of the sacrifice of Jesus, it is also a multi-layered one. Isaac stands for Jesus, the only son who is sacrificed, and yet after the appearence of the ram in the bush he becomes a picture of you and me, bound on the alter. The emotional impact of the story has been felt by the faithful for centuries. Sadly in American Christianity, is has been all but forgotten.
