Sen. Mitch McConnell gets devasting bad poll news from his home state. While Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has always suffered from a poor nationwide favorability rating a new survey published this week revealed that, he’s now disliked even in his own state of Kentucky. Conducted by Public Policy Polling the survey of 645 Kentucky voters showed that, just 18 percent of them approve of McConnell’s current performance, while a whopping 74 percent disapprove. Even taking into account that Public Policy Polling is a strongly Democrat-leaning outfit, that’s a stunning result.

For a comparison consider that, 39 percent of respondents approve of Sen. Rand Paul’s performance, while 47 percent disapprove. Likewise were a hypothetical election to be held today between Paul, and a random Democrat opponent, a 50 percent plurality of voters would choose the incumbent senator. But were an election to be held today between McConnell, and a random Democrat opponent, a 44 percent plurality of Kentucky voters would choose the Democrat, with McConnell drawing only 37 percent support. Ouch.

Clearly, President Donald Trump is not the only American who has misgiving about the Senate majority leader, who has repeatedly failed this year to meet his campaign promises. In a series of stinging tweets posted earlier this month, Trump specifically went after McConnell for failing to repeal and replace Obamacare. He also took the Kentucky senator to task for complaining about, Trump’s allegedly excessive expectations.

“Our new president, of course, has not been in this line of work before, and I think he had excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process,” McConnell had snidely said while speaking at a Rotary Club event in Kentucky in early August, according to CNN.

Here’s the kicker: A Politico Morning Consult poll conducted around this same time found that, “more GOP voters think Trump is looking out for the party’s best interests, than think McConnell is. By a more than three-to-one margin, they say that Trump is more in touch with Republican voters, and that Trump is more honest.”

If McConnell, who’s up for reelection in 2020 wants to preserve his career, he ought to consider laying off the president because the more trash he talks, the lower his favorability tends to sink. And if it continues to decline like this, it’s a good chance he won’t be back come 2021.
