DAHBOO 77 - COLORADO SPRINGS MASS CASUALTY DRILL, MOCK DOWNED AIRCRAFT EXERCISE

The training is expected to occur on Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. involving more than 700 personnel in the area of the airport. Cresterra Boulevard between Milton Proby Parkway and Powers Boulevard will be closed during the training.

There will be two phases in this exercise to test procedures for responding to a simulated aircraft emergency. Phase one will take place at the "crash site" area on Cresterra Parkway between Milton Proby Parkway and Powers Boulevard. Phase two will consist of hospital patient in-processing at UCHealth, Penrose St. Francis Health Services and St. Francis Medical Center.

Officials are letting the community know there will be "airplane crash victims" with stage makeup along with smoke and flames.

"Don’t be alarmed if the public sees that," said Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Nick Desutter in reference to the staged event. “The public may see an abnormally amount of traffic at hospitals, so again, it’s just part of the exercise. Everything at the hospitals will be functioning as they normally do, so they shouldn’t be alarmed.”
