New Biography Shows Barack Obama Considered Homosexuality

Perhaps owing to his increasingly friendly outreach to the LGBT community over the course of his administration, quiet rumors persisted throughout former President Barack Obama’s tenure in office that he may have secretly been a part of that community.

Those rumors likely just had a bucket of gasoline thrown on them, not by any conspiracy theorist or agenda-driven hater, but by a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer named David Garrow, whose new book “Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama” is set to hit bookshelves on May 9.

The Daily Caller noted that a portion of the book revealed that Obama had considered engaging in a homosexual lifestyle while in college due to a close friendship he had forged with Lawrence Goldwyn, an openly gay assistant professor at Occidental College.

“Goldyn made a huge impact on Barry Obama,” Garrow wrote. “Almost a quarter century later, asked about his understanding of gay issues, Obama enthusiastically said, ‘My favorite professor my first year in college was one of the first openly gay people that I knew … He was a terrific guy.’

“So terrific in fact that he and Obama developed a ‘friendship beyond the classroom.'”

“Goldyn years later would remember that Obama ‘was not fearful of being associated with me’ in terms of ‘talking socially’ and ‘learning from me’ after as well as in class,” Garrow continued.

According to BizPac Review, Garrow also wrote, “Three years later, Obama wrote somewhat elusively to his first intimate girlfriend that he had thought about and considered gayness, but ultimately had decided that a same-sex relationship would be less challenging and demanding than developing one with the opposite sex.”

“But there is no doubting that Goldyn gave 18-year-old Barry a vastly more positive and uplifting image of gay identity and self-confidence than he had known in Honolulu,” the award-winning author added.

To be sure, this revelation will certainly fuel speculation regarding the former president’s sexuality, for those who actually care about it.

Meanwhile, while we can neither confirm nor debunk the assertion by Garrow, it is worth pointing out one pertinent question regarding the broader liberal stance on the LGBT community: that “gayness” isn’t a “choice” that an individual can make, but something they are born into whether they like it or not.

This news about Obama considering but ultimately rejecting being gay in college would seemingly be at odds with the “not a choice” crowd of LGBT supporters. We will have to see how Obama’s liberal fan base, particularly in the LGBT community, react to this apparent rejection of their lifestyle by their political hero.
