CDC: CHOLERA HAS SPREAD THROUGHOUT HAITI

The cholera outbreak in Haiti has spread to every region of the island nation, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So far, the disease has claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people and has sickened 91,000 others. Almost half of those who have fallen ill have been hospitalized.

Operation Blessing International, a charity aid organization headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., has a team in Haiti to help improve the conditions for medical staff and patients.

For years, bed linens at the local hospital have been washed by hand. But the recent increase in soiled laundry has made it hard for workers to keep up with the demand - even forcing some patients to be placed in beds with used linens.

The charity aid organization has been working in tandem Tide Detergent's "Loads of Hope" program to correct the problem.

Thus far, crews have installed 16 commercial washers and driers at the largest hospital in the capital city of Port-au-Prince.

Operation Blessing volunteers are scheduled to install another commercial washer and dryer at a cholera clinic at St. Luc Hospital.
