The holidays can be very stressful and with only a week away from Christmas; it would be no surprise if this seasonal stress may trigger an outbreak. Because stress is a common factor to breakouts; it causes the skin to produce more oil. Stress is not the only factor though, allergies, food sensitivities, menstrual cycles, cosmetic products or lack of sleep, are all common causes of acne.

Although, acne is not harmful to your health, many of us feel less confident when breakouts occur. With this holiday season quickly approaching, here are 12 natural ways to fight acne this holiday:
•Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is the most effective cure for acne. It has antiseptic and antifungal properties that help prevent acne. It also contains natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that make it an exceptional alternative to harsh synthetic chemicals and kills acne-causing bacteria.
•Drink and infuse your body with teas

Various teas such as chamomile tea, green tea or rooibos tea have great benefits for the skin. Choose the best tea that fits best for your symptoms and drink 2-3 cups per day.
•Chamomile tea helps to reduce redness and acts as an anti-inflammatory, prevents inflammatory acne and rosacea and has calming properties. This tea also helps with reducing stress and benefiting sleep.
•Green tea has antibacterial and antioxidant properties; and is packed with antioxidants that reduce inflammation. When used directly on body, green tea reduces sebum production, gets rid of oiliness and protects against acne-causing bacteria.
•Rooibos tea is an excellent choice for seasonal dryness. It helps to cleanse the pores, leaving the skin to be moist and supple.
•Maintain a cleaner diet

Cookies, cakes and pies; the holidays are filled with too many tempting treats that are no good for your skin. Sugar and white flour create inflammation and can make any skin condition worse. You can still indulge in these treats if it’s in moderation; just know your limits.

•Oil cleansing

Might sound crazy, but the idea behind oil cleansing is that oil dissolves oil. Using the right kind of oil can help to reduce sebum production. Rub oil mixture on your skin for 5 minutes and clean your face with a damp washcloth.
•Turmeric

Turmeric is an excellent alternative for acne, and can be used internally and applied topically. Turmeric has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help with digestive problems, pain, inflammation, cancer and acne. It also helps to reduce inflammatory acne, fade scars and improve overall skin health. Mix 1 teaspoon a day into food or mix turmeric with water to use as a face mask.
•Baking soda and apple cider vinegar scrub

When mixing together, this facial scrub works best for treating blackheads and removing dead skin cells. Apple cider vinegar kills bacteria while baking soda dissolves clogged pores; making the two a powerful combination to fighting acne.
•Milk of Magnesia

Milk of Magnesia is known to calm and relax the skin. It also unclogs pores and reduces oil and sebum production. Dab a small amount onto the affected areas once daily.
•Cucumbers

Cucumbers do wonders to your skin. Cucumbers are rich in vitamin E, which will help to combat the free radicals causing pimples and acne as well as eliminate acne scars to give you a clear and smooth skin. If you use cucumber juice, it will help to unclog the skin pores by cleansing your skin from the deep inside to eliminate bacteria, excess oil, and dirt.
•Toothpaste

Toothpaste isn’t only just for cleaning your mouth but is also used as a great remedy for acne. Apply some toothpaste onto the acne area and leave it overnight.
•Oatmeal

Oatmeal exfoliates your skin, cleanses your pores and absorbs any excessive oil found in skin. Mix one tablespoon of honey and half of a lemon’s juice with a cup of cooked oatmeal, then rub this mixture onto the affected area and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing off. Apply every week.
•Vitamin C

Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, which will allow your pimples to dry up faster. Dab a cotton swap in fresh lemon juice and apply to affected areas before bed.
•Steam

Steaming helps to open up your pores and allow your skin to breathe, allowing it to get rid of oils, dirt and bacteria trapped in the pores that causes infection or inflammation.
