People need a perfume as the body odor can not always be a very pleasing smell. The current market offers a wide range of scents which could cover the smell of sweat and natural body odor. But why not apply your creativity to make your own natural perfume?
This article tells about some ways how to make your own DIY perfume at home. The downside of that approach is that it could take much more time, in some cases up 15 days to create your “masterpiece”, but on the other hand it would definitely cost lesser and can be customized to your taste. There are a few basic ways to make perfumes at home. Now let’s get the ball rolling and follow the steps below.
Method 1:
You will need the following ingredients to make a quick and easy DIY perfume:
Ingredients:
Clear, odorless oil. You can use safflower oil, grape seed oil or almond oil. These are clear and have no smell.
A clean cheesecloth
A big bowl
An airtight jar with a lid.
A small bottle for the final product. Use a bottle with a pump for easier usage.
All the fruits and flowers that you like. These include all the smells you want in your perfumes.
Mortar and pestle
Procedure:
Start by getting some really great smelling flowers, these could be roses, jasmine or whichever variety attracts you the most. You can smell its kind to decide for yourself.
Take your favorite citrus fruit. Choose between grape fruits, lemon, oranges etc.
Use a peeler to peel off the skin of the citrus fruits; you can use a knife or a zester.
You could use your favorite artificial flavorings if you are not attracted to citrus fruits, but do not use other fresh fruits for making perfumes.
You can also add your favorite spices, cinnamon or ginger etc.
Using mortar and pestle, mash up the dry ingredients and form a mixture of smells that you want. You do not have to form a mixture; you could stick to using only one ingredient as your only smell for the perfume
You could use a chopper or grinder too grind all the ingredients together – you will need about 3 cups of these chopped ingredients for your perfumes
In the airtight jar, put all the dry, chopped ingredients. And then add odorless oil to the jar
Make sure the oil is enough to soak the dry ingredients well.
Cover the jar with an airtight lid and let it stay for in a warm dark place for 10 to 15 days. This will help the oil to absorb the smells from the dry ingredients
After 10 days, take the jar out and using a cheesecloth and bowl, strain the oil for the chopped ingredients i.e. flowers and ginger etc.
This will leave the ingredients in the cheesecloth. Since they will still be moist and drenched in oil, squeeze the ingredients to extract the essentials oil from the primary ingredients.
Now add 1 parts essential oil and 4 parts clean odorless oil.
Mix the two well and you have your very own home made perfume.
Pour this oil into a clear bottle with a pump.
Since this is an oil based perfume, it will stay on your body and will not evaporate.
This perfume is 100% organic, made with no chemicals at all.
Method 2:
Ingredients:
Essential oils
Clear odorless oil
Clear bottle
Procedure:
Take a cup of odorless oil, almond or grapeseed.
Add in a few drops of your favorite essential oils
Mix the two ingredients well
Pour them in a spray bottle.
This is oil based and will not evaporate, it will last longer on the skin.
Method 3:
Ingredients:
Fresh flowers. Use your favorite kind from your garden or the nearby flower shop
Cheesecloth
A sauce pan
Distilled water
Spray bottle
Procedure:
Start by separating the petals from the flowers
Wash them thoroughly and make sure there is no dust
Now add two cups of distilled water in a sauce pan
Add one cup of fresh flower petals
Let the petals boil in the water until it is reduced to 1 cup of water
Now place the cheesecloth in a big clean bowl
Pour the water from the sauce pan in the bowl, from over the cheesecloth
Thus it will sieve out the petal residues and leave you with water that smells great
If you do not think it is strong enough, you can add a few drops of essential oils of the same flower that you have used initially. Like if you use rose petals than you should use essential oil of roses as well.
Mix the two very well.
Let the scented water come to the room temperature
Pour it in a spray bottle and your perfume is ready to use
This is a chemical free perfume made at home.
These are a few of possible ways of making a perfume at home. As you see all of them require your time and effort. In case if you are in a hurry or just not an enthusiastic home perfume maker, then probably picking your favorite scent from a wide range of brands available in a nearby perfume shop would be your best choice. Alternatively you can get all sorts of perfumes online and delivered at your door quickly and without the hassle.
