CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE DEFIES AUSTINITIES ONCE AGAIN BY FAILING TO SUPPORT MOTION TO END WATER FLUORIDATION Pcu-fl10

(NaturalNews) Austinites were met with disappointment yet again when the Public Utilities Commission failed to take action on a resolution to end water fluoridation, as Councilman Don Zimmerman was the only member who motioned for the initiative to be heard by the Austin City Council.

The August 19 meeting was a continuation of the June 17 gathering in which the City of Austin failed miserably to present evidence showing why water fluoridation is necessary. Anti-fluoridationists, however, presented more than 50 pages worth of scientific reviews and studies detailing the adverse health impacts of water fluoridation.

Instead of voting in favor of the anti-fluoride activists who more fairly represent the public and had taken the time to prepare and show up, the city was given another chance to present their case.

You can video of the meeting here.

City of Austin employees turn to Nazi style tactics to push fluoride

Hitler's Propaganda Minister Paul Joseph Goebbels famously said, "If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes truth."

Clearly a supporter of this ideology, Austin's Medical Director and Health Authority Dr. Philip Huang opened his pro-fluoride argument insisting that the chemical is natural, natural, natural. However, those who are informed would likely agree that's there nothing natural about hydrofluorosilicic acid, a byproduct of the phosphate fertilizer industry.

"One parts per million is the same as one inch in relation to 16 miles," said Huang, attempting to make the argument that such low levels of fluoride couldn't possibly be harmful.

The argument is completely idiotic for two reasons: One being that many poisons are extremely toxic even in very low concentrations and the second is that if one ppm is too low to have any effects, then why do we need it in our water?

Huang continued to make outlandish arguments by insisting that children will "miss school" and "struggle academically" if they don't get their daily dose of hydrofluorosilicic acid.

However, nothing could be further from the truth.

In 2012, the Harvard School of Public Health suggested that fluoridated water may "negatively affect cognitive development" resulting in lower IQs in children exposed to the toxin.

"Fluoride seems to fit in with lead, mercury, and other poisons that cause chemical brain drain," said Philippe Grandjean, the study's senior author. "The effect of each toxicant may seem small, but the combined damage on a population scale can be serious, especially because the brain power of the next generation is crucial to all of us."

Huang says City Hall not the place to make "informed decisions" on fluoride

Demonstrating complete negligence, Huang argued that the Harvard study had been "debunked," but failed to explain why. He also said that it's impossible to make "informed decisions" on water fluoridation in a setting such as City Hall.

The last time we checked, the sole purpose of Austin City Hall is to serve as a place where Austinites can gather to learn, discuss and make decisions about what's happening in their city. After all, it's supposed to be a "government of the people, by the people and for the people."

For Huang to say this is not the place is completely undemocratic and a true betrayal of Austinites.

City Hall floods with anti-fluoridation activists

Admirably, anti-fluoridation activists, who included scientists, dentists and ordinary citizens, were relentless in their efforts as they packed out City Hall, equipped with signs illustrating the dangers of fluoride.

"Fluoride makes humans docile. If you don't care, it's working," one sign read.

Water fluoridation was first used in Nazi Germany by Adolf Hitler against Jews imprisoned in concentration camps. The chemical was added to their drinking water in an attempt make them more docile, as well as infertile. In the 1930s, the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) continued Hitler's fluoride "research," funding a study on the effects of naturally fluoridated water on rat's teeth.

Scientists confirmed that fluoride caused the discoloration of teeth, but also hypothesized that it prevented cavities. They later recommended that all U.S. cities fluoridate its public water supply using sodium-fluoride, a byproduct of aluminum smelting that's also used as a rat and bug poison, fungicide and wood preservative.

In 1945, Grand Rapids, Michigan became the first city to fluoridate its water.

Today, hydrofluorosilicic acid, a byproduct of the phosphate fertilizer industry, is most commonly used to fluoridate water, as is the case in Austin, Texas, which spent $340,000 dollars fluoridating the water in 2013-14.

Holistic dentist Dr. Griffin leads fluoride debate

Anti-fluoride proponent and highly respected local Austin dentist, Dr. Griffin Cole, once again knocked it out of the park as he spoke passionately about the ineffectiveness of ingesting fluoride, pointing to numerous studies that say the chemical is only effective when applied topically.

No single randomized clinical study has proven that ingesting fluoride actually works, says Dr. Griffin.

Never missing a beat, he spoke from the heart while attempting to convince the committee that fluoride is "harmful, not helpful," compared with Huang who kept his eyes glued to his papers as he read through rhetoric faster than anyone could possibly understand, spouting meaningless statistics, likely trying to breeze over information that he knew could easily be debunked.

The information presented by Huang is contradicting, said Griffin. "If it's [fluoride] been around for so long and is so great, then why is tooth decay going up?"

Huang nervously shuffled through his papers before eventually giving up and returning his attention to Griffin, who continued to list the health effects of fluoride including bone cancer, thyroidism and dental fluorosis.

Despite the overwhelming testimony from anti-fluoridationists, Zimmerman's committee members refused to stand by him. Even Councilwoman Ellen Troxclair, who appeared to question fluoridation at the June 17 meeting, remained silent, too cowardly to stand up for the safety of Austinites.

While the effort to stop water fluoridation has met another dead end, the passion and support behind the movement is too strong to be dismantled and will likely resurface once again at Austin City Hall.
