Cameron Vetoes EU Treaty Revisions; Germany Now Fully in Charge · January 12, 2012
“Britain has rejected proposed amendments to the EU treaty, making an agreement by all 27 member states impossible.” David Cameron, British Prime Minister, did not get concessions and opt-out clauses that he wanted for the UK so he vetoed the amendments. “What is on offer is not in Britain’s interest, so I didn’t agree to it,” said Cameron.
The issue was over economic sovereignty. “We are never going to join the euro. We are never going to give up the sort of sovereignty that these countries are having to give up in order to enter a fiscal union. So, in some ways, the fact they are going to do this in a separate treaty without distorting the European Union treaty itself, in many ways, given that we could not get those safeguards, perhaps it is a better outcome,” he said.
Britain has historically been the nation that has resisted the rise of the German Fourth Reich. But Germany forced Britain to make a decision by insisting that Britain agree to changes in the treaty that would largely remove its economic sovereignty. Was Britain going to come all the way into the European Union or was it going to remain a relatively sovereign nation? Britain refused to yield.
Many think that Britain will eventually leave the EU. “The European press were mostly unified in saying [Cameron] has made a mistake, and isolated his country, perhaps paving the way for Britain to leave the EU altogether.”
Britain’s potential departure is only one aspect of this development. “When the dust settles,” said the UK Guardian, “Friday 9 December may be seen as a watershed, the beginning of the end for Britain in Europe. But more than that – the emergence for the first time of a cold new Europe in which Germany is the undisputed, pre-eminent power imposing a decade of austerity on the eurozone as the price for its propping up the currency.”
Germany now has much more freedom to work her domineering will in Europe. Without Britain’s interference, Germany is unhampered in her quest for the mastery of Europe. “For the first time in the history of the EU, the Germans are now in charge,” said Charles Grant, director of the Centre for European Reform think tank.
Now the 27 nations of the EU minus 1 will have to implement an intergovernmental agreement or treaty to join more closely in fiscal and economic union with Britain on the sidelines. That would likely have serious consequences. Now the eurozone nations along with the non-eurozone nations who are willing will develop a separate treaty among themselves without Britain.
Revelation 7:1 “And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.”
“Angels are now restraining the winds of strife, that they may not blow until the world shall be warned of its coming doom; but a storm is gathering, ready to burst upon the earth; and when God shall bid His angels loose the winds, there will be such a scene of strife as no pen can picture.” Education, page 179-180
Perhaps the angels let go the winds of strife just a little. “Winds are a symbol of strife. The four winds of heaven striving upon the great sea represent the terrible scenes of conquest and revolution by which kingdoms have attained to power.” Great Controversy, page 439
