(NaturalNews) In October 1993, then-President Bill Clinton raised a ruckus nationwide when it was reported that he was responsible for delaying air traffic at Los Angeles International Airport for hours so he could get a haircut from a Hollywood stylist to the stars.

While the report outraged millions of Americans who labeled the president as out of touch and arrogant, it was later refuted as being factually inaccurate, as documented by the Clinton-connected media watchdog Media Matters.

Now, having said that, Air Force One's presence at LA International that day did, in fact, create complications; two of the airport's four runways were closed to traffic in order to keep aircraft away from the president's plane.

"If you close two runways, you take away 50 percent of the capacity and increase the complexity by 100 percent," Karl Grundmann, regional vice of the local air-traffic control union, told Newsday at the time, according to Media Matters.

So while no flights were delayed, as was originally reported, there was some impact caused by what turned out to be an expensive haircut (that the White House at the time said was paid for by the Clintons).

Clintons: Haircuts and controversy

But apparently costly haircuts and controversy are just part of the Clinton legacy.

In recent days, the New York Post's Page Six gossip column reported that Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton put a portion of Bergdorf Goodman – a luxury goods department store located on Fifth Avenue in New York City – on lockdown so she could get a $600 haircut at the ritzy John Barrett Salon.

With a massive entourage in tow, Clinton strode into the store on the afternoon of July 24, a Friday, after being ushered through a side entrance by her handlers.

One source told Page Six, "Staff closed off one side of Bergdorf's so Hillary could come in privately to get her hair done. An elevator bank was shut down so she could ride up alone, and then she was styled in a private area of the salon. Other customers didn't get a glimpse. Hillary was later seen with a new feathered hairdo."

The paper reported further that Clinton is a regular of John Barrett, the owner, who charges $600 for a cut and blow-dry. If patrons want hair coloring, that's an additional $600, Page Six's Emily Smith noted.

"It is not known how much, or if, Clinton paid for the haircut, and her reps didn't respond to requests for comment. But Clinton's attachment to her hairstylists is well documented," Smith wrote.

It is just another example of how this "woman of the people" – her claim, not ours – is so detached from the reality that 99 percent of Americans must face every day it's difficult to fathom she could even understand the plight of so many lesser beings.

Taking arrogance and aloofness to the next level

Granted, Clinton – a former first lady – is entitled to protection and other amenities that go along with her former position (former U.S. senators and State Department chiefs don't usually have Secret Service protection), and we certainly would not like to see her harmed in any way.

But it is galling to see such cavalier disregard for the lives of other people when she so easily inconveniences them. What would it take for her to understand that just by her presence so many special arrangements that are sure to cut into someone else's time have to be made, and that it is inherently selfish for her to demand accommodation? Can't she get someone to come to her home, for example, to cut her hair?

Speaking of haircuts, convenience and that running for president thing, when is the former first lady and alleged Democratic frontrunner going to start answering reporters' questions? When are Americans going to start hearing something more from her other than talking points and platitudes uttered during commencement speeches and at fundraisers?

Instead of inconveniencing ordinary Americans and roping off reporters so she doesn't have to face them, the potential next leader of the free world needs to spend a little time humbling herself and realizing that, even if she becomes president, she still won't be the center of the known universe.
