CHILE ENACTS LAW TO GUARANTEE WORKERS SUNDAYS OFF TRADE

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet signed into law regulating the working hours of workers trade initiative that establishes Sunday rest, in addition to the two employees have monthly for this category seven Sundays a year.

"This law will benefit nearly one million compatriots who with their work and effort, enable malls and supermarkets operate on an ongoing basis throughout the week. From today, along with better organize the working day, is it moving in Chile rescue for all its workers the right to Sunday rest, "he said.

Likewise the head of state explained that the regulations in days hours worked Remunerated Sunday will have a surcharge of 30% on the value of the corresponding hour base pay for both full-time workers, as those who serve part-time independent of the number of hours they are hired.

"This right to Sunday rest can not be compensated in cash or may accumulate from year to year, because what we want is that our workers can truly do anything with that free time," said Bachelet.

For his part the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Javiera Blanco; He stressed the advantages of this labor initiative, ensuring that workers in the sector will have 29 Sundays a year for their work.

He also said that the new legislation is the result of joint and coordinated between representatives of workers and employers in commerce and supermarkets and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, in order to develop proposals that go in improving the regime of work and Sunday rest, as well as productivity and organization of the working time of the sector.

"This is the way how a country coming to agreement on a dialogue between workers and employers is constructed," White said. He also stressed that "the legislation allows to combine family life with work."
