Eczema is a skin condition, which is very common among babies as well as young children.

However, eczema can also affect adults. Skin areas affected by eczema can exhibit a variety of characteristics including:

• Blistering

• Inflammation (swelling, irritation and warmth)
• Scaling
• Small red bumps
• Darkening of the area of skin affected by eczema (hyperpigmentation)
• Dryness
• Thickening of the affected skin due to frequent scratching

People who suffer from eczema experience severe itchiness in the affected area. This itchiness is often so intense that the affected person is unable to control the urge to scratch the area. Constant scratching of the itchy area leads to soreness and bleeding. Such open wounds often become infected and inflamed as well. Following are some natural cures for treating eczema and easing the discomfort feeling:

Coconut oil

There are so many uses of coconut oil, we use it for skin, teeth, hair and health, but it’s also helpful for eczema. This is because there is antimicrobial, antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal properties in this super oil. Apply some coconut oil over the affected areas of your skin and massage. Do this 3-4 times a day, this will help in moistening the skin.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is an ideal remedy for eczema, simply apply aloe vera gel to the affected areas of your skin, and leave the gel in place for some hours to make sure a good absorption.

Green Tea

If you’re suffering from eczema, drink green tea regularly may help. The reason of this is because of the good amount of powerful antioxidants in green tea help to strengthen the immune system and so the body can fight against the inflammation more effectively. Drink green tea every day for this skin problem, and you’ll get other benefits from it as well.

Magnesium Baths

Eczema is often a sign of a magnesium deficiency. When magnesium levels are low, the body begins to produce histamines. Histamine creates itchy skin and red blotches, which is caused by swelling blood vessels leaking fluid into the skin and tissues. So for people with eczema, magnesium baths can be helpful in skin healing.

A recommended magnesium bath recipe:

• 1-2 cups of Epsom salts or magnesium flakes
• 1/2 cup Himalayan or Sea Salt
• 1/2 tsp of natural vanilla extract
• 10-15 drops of essential oil (lavender or mint)

Witch Hazel

Apply this herb to the affected skin areas on a regular basis will help in reducing itchiness as well as inflammation associated with eczema. It is recommended that you use the liquid form of this herb because of its quick action on the problem, you can soak a few cotton balls in witch hazel extract and dab them on the affected areas.

Manuka honey

Studies have found that manuka honey was effective in reducing red and scaly spots that develop due to eczema, as it possesses antiseptic properties.

Melt 2 tablespoons of beeswax in the pan and add 2 tablespoons manuka honey, 2 tablespoons olive oil, mix them well and save the mixture into a sterile glass jar, place the lid on and keep the jar in the refrigerator. You can apply the paste directly to the affected skin areas.

Almonds Leaves

Take a few almond leaves and crush them, then add some water till you get a thick paste. Apply the paste to the affected areas, this is considered effective in reducing the symptoms of eczema.
