Walls of the Vatican are beginning to crack

11:18 AM 666 - USA

Article written by Ray Mouton, author of "In God's House"

The high, stone walls protecting the institution of the Roman Catholic Church are beginning to crack under the weight of the truth.

The first formidable wall in the clergy sex abuse crisis and scandal was the wall erected by pedophile priests who threatened children they raped with harm to themselves and their families if the child ever told any one.

This wall has been torn down by brave survivors of clergy sex abuse and their lawyers who have brought individual priests to justice through civil law suits, and in some cases criminal prosecutions as well, ending in prison sentences.

A much taller and stronger second wall that has been even a more intimidating wall is the one Bishops built to protect themselves, their impervious Monsignors and dioceses, as parents of children who were victims of sex abuse and the victims themselves were threatened with excommunication if they told anyone else about the sex abuse. In most places, this wall still stands.

The strongest walls are those around The Vatican that protects itself and its Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals. This wall still stands.

There were also a set of fences, not nearly so strong as the three walls referred to - fences that were built by the press, police and prosecutors that allowed them to treat the Church with deference, and turn away from their duty to report on, arrest and prosecute guilty priests. These fences separating these entities from their duty no longer exist.

The first wall cracked slowly over years as plaintiff lawyers again and again asserted the rights of victims of clergy sex abuse and pedophile priests began to be removed from the ministry, and a small percentage of sex abusing priests were sentenced to prison, and that percentage continues to grow almost daily with reports of more priests being sentenced to prison terms.

In some places, the strong diocesan walls that have protected Bishops and dioceses have been scarred by the flames of the fire of scandal that has grown hotter and hotter, but these walls, though scarred and blackened have not been broken down and remain intact today.

The walls around the dioceses and Vatican, did appear to be impenetrable for a long time, but......

The fact......

......that legal settlements in the U. S. have now exceeded three billion dollars

......that eleven U. S. dioceses have sought bankruptcy protection

......that some priests have been incarcerated in prisons

......that the second highest ranking Monsignor in Philadelphia, William Lynn, was put on trial in a criminal court

.....that Kansas City Bishop, Robert Finn, was convicted in criminal court

......that damning documents have been released in huge Dioceses like Los Angeles and Chicago and other places like Milwaukee and Minnesota

......that the United Nations has denounced the Vatican, calling upon the Vatican to punish the Bishops who have covered up sex crimes

means that the walls around the dioceses and the Vatican are weakening.

Over time the force and sheer weight of the truth will breach the last remaining walls that have protected the institution of the Roman Catholic Church for so long.

Not a single individual, group, country, organization, army or institution that has been guilty of crimes against humanity on an massive scale has escaped indictment and trial, the judgment of man and the judgment of history, and many such organizations believed the walls they had constructed were impenetrable.

The clergy sex abuse crisis will continue to escalate until there is resolution for history proves that those responsible for gross human rights violations and crimes on a massive scale are always ultimately brought to justice.

No walls are strong enough to protect people guilty of heinous, despicable crimes, in this case crimes against innocent children committed by men wearing Roman collars, posing as men of God.
