There are countless souls who prefer to sit back and receive assistance while others are denied it.  My sister who is disabled had applied endlessly to work.  She suffers from Abetalipoprotemia but that didn't prevent her from seeking employment.




She was called for an interview on one of her applications, and since I didn't have anything to do that day, I brought her to it.  As I watched her ascend up a flight of stairs to the 2nd floor, she was stopped by a man who was standing outside seemly having a cigarette break. He looked at my sister with disgust, and asked her what did she need.  My sister replied, "Sir, I am here for an interview."  Immediately the man replied, "That job has been taken."  It pained me to see my sister descend from the stairs.  Head down and broken hearted, my sister resolved that since that was her fifth job decline, no one was going to give her a chance and that she will apply for food-stamps and welfare.


It stunned me to know that they denied her that as well. The reason?  They told her that she didn't have any children; and one jokingly told her to have kids and come back!  She was in despair after that... 




Then she heard of the disable act and went to apply.  She completed working 20 years in the government.  When she tried to retire at 20 years they told her that she would not be able to get any benefits because she needed to retire at 55 and that her disability was a precondition/existing issue.  After all the red tape was cleared up, she is now receiving her retirement benefit, but is  unable to enjoy her retirement and I am very concerned about her as she appears to be in her deathbed.  So please forgive the video above.  Thanks for your understanding! ~ Judy Velez
