DAHBOO 77 - CHAOS IN BOLIVIA: POLICE CLASH WITH PROTESTORS, TAKE CONTROL OF ACCESS ROUTES

The police managed to take control of the roads in Camiri and the villagers denounced through social networks the excessive use of force in the unlocking and repression of a group of protesters that prevented the crossing of the road that connects Santa Cruz with Yacuiba, demanding the Resignation of the mayor Franz Valdez for alleged acts of corruption.

"A lot of abuse, a lot of abuse," the villagers shouted and claimed that more than a hundred police officers entered homes and affected mobilities and also said that gunfire was heard and tear gas was used to dispel people. Blockers set fire, and armed themselves with stones and sticks.

Under a strong police presence, the roads remain in Camiri, after Saturday night the operation to unblock the road connecting Santa Cruz with Yacuiba, which the residents described as "excessive" and "violent."

Police carried out patrols all night to prevent the blockers from returning and announced that they will remain in place for a couple of days until the protest is fully controlled.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, José Luis Quiroga confirmed to El Deber Radio that the Police detained 33 people during the operation. However he denied that he had acted with excessive violence and denied that the police actions had claimed the life of a person as rumored among the settlers.
