Two-year-old girl found covered in feces in 'near-unsurvivable' conditions after parents left her alone with two dogs in urine-soaked Connecticut apartment

Cops said conditions in the home were 'deplorable' and 'near-unsurvivable'
The child was uninjured and neither her mother or stepfather were arrested
Two small dogs were also discovered & were taken away by animal control

A two-year-old girl has been found alone and covered in feces in a urine-soaked Connecticut apartment.
The child was living in 'near-unsurvivable conditions' with two dogs when she was found by cops on Friday morning.
Neighbors in Hartford discovered the girl was alone after knocking on the door of the apartment to tell them about a water leak coming from an upstairs apartment.

Mother and daughter Tyrine and Candace Wilkins told NBC Connecticut that the girl told them through the locked door that she was alone.
They immediately called the police who gained entry to the apartment and took the girl to hospital.
She was checked over at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center but was found to be uninjured.


Police said there was urine and feces strewn across the home, as well as extension cords across the floors and a sink filled with dirty plates.
Officers said the girl's mother was on her way home from work when she was found. Both the mother and the girl's stepfather are said to be cooperating with police.
Deputy Chief Brian Foley, of the Hartford Police Department, said cops found 'deplorable' conditions when they entered the apartment.

'Our cops don't want to be judging people but you see these types of conditions and common sense tells you you've got to get the kid out of that environment. It's darn near unsurvivable,' he said.
'The child didn't have any overt injuries, it didn't seem to be suffering any trauma,' he added.
Police said no one had been arrested yet, but neighbors said they saw a man being led away in handcuffs.
Two small dogs were also discovered and they were taken away by animal rescue, the Hartford Courant reported.
