Zambia Elects First Roman Catholic as President · February 21, 2012

Mr. Michael Sata, a Roman Catholic, and a former British Rail worker who was elected president of Zambia in late September of 2011 wants to “base his government on the principles of the Ten Commandments.” Mr. Sata is the first Roman Catholic president of the mostly Christian nation.

During a Sunday service of thanksgiving after Mr. Sata was elected, he surprised congregants by saying, “This government will be governed on the 10 Commandments. Thou shalt not steal, do unto others as you would like them to do unto you,” Sata said. “He also pledged to work with his Church, the Catholic Church, and that it will have special place in the governance of the country.” Mr. Sata said he would use the structures of the church to fight poverty to help transform the lives of the people.”

In other words, Mr. Sata may well be on the way to making Zambia a Roman Catholic nation.

In 1991 Zambia’s president, Frederick Chiluba declared Zambia a Christian Nation when he assumed power in 1991. In 1996, the declaration became part of the preamble of the Republican Constitution. Now Sata wants to legislate the Ten Commandments into national law. He said “You cannot just declare Zambia a Christian nation without doing what is required. You even sin more, the issue of 10 commandments; we may go to Parliament and make them into law…”

But ruling by the Ten Commandments means more than mere legislation to Mr. Sata. During a visit from Church of England Archbishop Dr. Rowan Williams, Sata said, “I am very grateful for your coming to Zambia… We need lots of religious cleansing – give us missionaries. What we get on Sunday is not adequate to sustain the Church…”

What would be the meaning of “religious cleansing?” Sata’s campaign platform involved promises to cleanse the country of corruption. But could religious laws including Sunday laws be established in the name of cleansing the country of many ills and problems?

Mr. Sata has a nickname… “King Cobra.” “His nickname conjures up two views on him,” wrote the BBC, “ready to strike or slippery and dangerous.”

Already Mr. Sata has struck to the benefit of the Catholic Church. On November 27, 2011 Sata directed that a local council guesthouse, which is public property, be handed over to the Catholic Church as a residence for retired priests. Stay tuned. There is more to come.

“And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” Revelation 14:8

Even Zambia, a former British colony, with a protestant heritage has now elected a Roman Catholic president who wants to run the country based on the Ten Commandments and have religious cleansing. Could Zambia be headed for repression of those who do not go along with the religious zeal of its president? All nations, including Zambia, will join Rome’s final assault on the Sabbath truth and its loyal adherents.
