Super-Influenza Virus with the Potential to Kill Millions · January 24, 2012

Do you remember the H5N1 virus? Well, consider this: “A Dutch researcher has created a virus with the potential to kill half of the planet’s population.”

Ron Fouchier, a researcher at Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, Netherlands took a strain of the avian influenza H5N1 virus and modified it using ferrets. After ten generations, and five mutations it become highly contagious through the air.

Fouchier’s virus strain kills about 50% of infected patients, which presents a global threat if it gets into the hands of bioterrorists.

“I can not think of a pathogenic organism to be more dangerous than this one,” commented Paul Keim, a specialist in microbial genetics who worked for many years with the anthrax bacillus. “I think the anthrax is not at all scary, when compared with this virus,” he added.

“It’s just a bad idea for scientists to turn a lethal virus into a lethal and highly contagious virus. And it’s a second bad idea for them to publish how they did it so others can copy it,” believes Dr. Thomas Inglesby, a bioterrorism expert.

Others argue that providing the scientific community with the “recipe” would prepare them for a potential pandemic, while banning it, would leave mankind helpless.

Jesus said there would be great pestilences that arise in the last days. See Matthew 24:7 and Luke 21:11. But God’s promises to His faithful people are not in vain.

At the time of the deliverance of God’s people, Great Controversy page 654 tells us, “When the voice of God turns the captivity of His people, there is a terrible awakening of those who have lost all in the great conflict of life… The world see the very class whom they have mocked and derided, and desired to exterminate, pass unharmed through pestilence, tempest, and earthquake. He who is to the transgressors of His law a devouring fire, is to His people a safe pavilion.”

“‘The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them.’ Psalm 34:7. God commissions His angels to save His chosen ones from calamity, to guard them from ‘the pestilence that walketh in darkness’ and ‘the destruction that wasteth at noonday.’” Psalm 91:6.

It is really only a matter of time until this or other deadly pestilences are released into the human population in one way or another. Now is the time to prepare for the protection of Christ in order to escape the coming destruction.
