So you’d like healthy beautiful skin?

But skin that is not only healthy, but looks healthy too. Don’t we all want amazing looking skin? But did you know that what you put inside your body may actually be more important than products that you put on your skin? So it won’t matter if you are spending thousands of dollars on beauty products and creams, if you don’t feed your skin the nutrients it needs from your diet, your skin will never look its best.

With this being said, we have put together a list of the top 5 foods that are super easy to incorporate into your diet that will help keep your skin healthy and looking great. From the inside out. So let’s get straight to it:

1.Berries

There are more to berries than just their amazing taste. Berries have many great health benefits for you and they are also awesome for your skin. They are high in antioxidants and rich in vitamin C. This is especially true for blueberries. Studies have shown that people who eat foods high in vitamin C from vegetables and fruit on a consistent basis develop less wrinkles than people who don’t include them in their diet (1). Vitamin C is great for collagen production which is needed for firmer and more elastic skin. The antioxidants from berries can also help your body fight off blemishes, leading to clearer skin.
2.Orange Foods

Orange foods especially vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes and squash are high in beta-carotene. This is what gives these foods their orange colour. But that’s not all it does. In addition, orange foods help protect our skin from free radical damage. They protect the skin from harmful sun radiation and can actually reduce scaling and roughness of the skin.
3.Eggs

Who would have thought? Eggs are actually really great for your skin. They are rich in vitamin A, which helps your skin repair itself. Eggs are also a great source of biotin which is a vitamin B. If you want healthy skin and nails, this is essential. The protein in eggs is a great source of amino acids which helps in improving the health condition of your skin. The amino acids here help generate proteins such as elastin and collagen which strengthens your skin tissue. Try adding in 2 eggs a day into your diet.
4.Cabbage

Cabbage is high in vitamin C. It actually contains more vitamin C than oranges! Cabbage helps heal damaged tissues and minimizes deep lines on your skin. It also contains plenty of vitamin A, which helps to smooth lines in your skin. Cabbage can also help you look healthy and glow as it is high in potassium. Potassium can help in purifying your body and skin and is high in vitamin E. You can even use cabbage on your skin to help relieve symptoms of eczema, acne, psoriasis, insect bites, rashes, and more. Simply blend cabbage and wrap it in a cloth. Apply to the skin for about 15 minutes. Adding cabbage into your regular diet along with regular application on the skin can help you heal these ailments faster.
5.Green Tea

Ok, so not exactly a food. But green tea still deserves a mention on this list and the reason is that it is packed with antioxidants. Green tea can help make your skin look healthier and younger. Green tea is also great for reducing acne as it helps reduce levels of dihydrotestosterone. This is an acne-producing hormone. According to studies drinking green tea can also help prevent skin damage related to aging and UVB related skin damage (2,3,4). Suffering from sunburn? Well you can use chilled damp green tea bags to soothe the burn. Try adding a cup of green tea each day into your daily routine.

Bonus Tip: One final big tip to improve the look and feel of your skin and again, it’s not a food. Dehydration plays a huge role in making our skin look older and duller. Make sure to drink plenty of water each day. And I am not talking about drinking more coffee, soda or juice, I mean plain purified water. Ideally you want to drink around half of your body weight in ounces every day. So if you weighed 150lbs, then you should be drinking around 75 ounces of water. A good way to check if you are dehydrated is to check the colour of your urine. If it is any darker than a light straw colour, then you need to drink more water. Drink up and stay hydrated for healthy skin.

What do you eat to keep your skin looking good? Is something missing off this list? Let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear from you.
